Sounder Commuter Train

All aboard! Sit back, relax, avoid driving in traffic and get to work stress free, and on time every day.  The Sounder Commuter Train runs from Tacoma to Puyallup, Sumner, Auburn, Kent, Tukwila, Downtown Seattle, and Everett—an extension south to Lakewood is currently under development.

 

Consider catching the Tacoma Link Light Rail downtown; it’s free and runs from the Tacoma Dome Station to 9th and Commerce every 10-20 minutes

In addition to the standard schedules, the Sounder also offers additional service to special events like Mariners games, Sounders FC games and the Races at Emerald Downs.

Using ORCA on the Sounder: Please note that Sound Transit may issue fines to riders who do not properly tap their ORCA card when riding the Sounder – be sure to tap at the beginning and end of every trip. 

 

Regional Reduced Fair Permits

 

The Sounder has free wireless internet access on many train cars.  Now you can take your work with you, or take care of personal business during your commute.

 

Ride Guide for First-Time Users

Riding is stress-free and enjoyable when you know the basics. Check out these tips for new riders:

Step 1: Get connected with Sounder Information. The commuter train schedules are posted
online. You can also subscribe to Rider Alerts (RSS or Email) so you know about any changes or delays on your route.

Step 2: Head to the station. Look at the
service map to find one near you, and then click on the station map link to view a more detailed station layout.

Step 3: Pay for your fare. Look for one of the ORCA pass stations or
Ticket Vending Machines. If you have an ORCA card, you must tap on by holding your ORCA card up to a reader station before boarding. Sound Transit may issue fines to riders who do no tap their ORCA cards.


Step 4: Board the Train. Find a comfortable seat on the lower or upper level of a car. If you plan on using wireless internet, make sure to check which cars offer
wireless. Restrooms are available in all cars.

Step 5: Arrive at Your Destination. When you deboard, make sure you have all your belongings. If you used an ORCA card, tap off at a reader station before continuing on to your destination.

Emergency Ride Home
