Jacqueline K. bikingWhere do you work, and what is your role in the company?

I am a Certifier/Interpreter for CHI Franciscan WIC.

How do you usually get to work? How long have you been using this commute option?

I commute on my bicycle, Mon-Fri commuting year round for 13 years.

How far is your commute? How long does it take you each way?

My commute is 12 miles roundtrip, it takes me about 20 to 30 min.

What made you decide to commute this way/what do you enjoy about your commute?

Great exercise, love the view from the bike; Sky, mountain, sunsets/sunrise, birds and flowers, wildlife, the scents of each season and most definitely love the environmental factor! Cleaner planet, less emissions, save on fuel, get paid to commute and no traffic jams!

Do you have any interesting stories from your commute?

So many stories although one of my favorites is a rainy am commute, waiting at a red light, (thank goodness for rain gear) a man in the vehicle next to me rolls his window down and says, "Way to go, great way to commute!" and offers me a freshly bought hot cup of coffee. Sweet!

Do you think you save money by commuting this way?

I have saved thousands in fuel cost and therapy! It's very relaxing to ride off the stress of the work day.

How does your company help accommodate your commute option? (ex: if you’re a biker, are there adequate bike racks? If a bus rider, does your company offer a free bus pass?)

My employer has covered bike racks, free emergency taxi rides if needed and financial incentives.

More incentives and raise further awareness of the Pierce County Commuter program and Rideshare.

What would you say to your fellow employees to inspire them to try using a commute option other than driving alone in their car?

Less stressful commute, meet new people, less traffic on roads, Great exercise!
