Megan
Where do you work and what is your role in the company?
I work in Tacoma as an Admin.
How far is your commute? How long does it take you each way? If you are teleworking, how long would your commute have been if you were commuting to the office?
24 miles roundtrip. It takes over an hour and a half to travel during peak traffic time!
What is your commute mode and what made you decide to commute this way?
My work gives me the option to telework 3 days a week and commute 2 [days a week].
What do you enjoy about your commute (or teleworking)?
On the days that I telework, I get to add almost 2 hours back to my day that otherwise would have spent sitting in traffic going to and from work. Working from home allows me to get more done around the house and spend more time with my family and 3 dogs!
Do you have any interesting stories from your commute?
Not really, other than how crazy traffic can be. Without any traffic, it takes approximately 30 minutes to get home from my work. However, in peak traffic times, this is almost tripled!
Do you think you save money by commuting this way?
Definitely. With the three days a week I spend teleworking, I estimate at least 5 hours of driving are saved. That's a lot of gas...
How does your company help accommodate your commute option? (ex: bike racks, free bus pass, vanpool subsidy, flexible work hours, telework incentives, etc.)
Teleworking is a great option that my work offers. Once they realized employees can be just as productive from home, they gave this option to staff who wanted it. They definitely prioritize employees work/home life balance.
Is there anything your company could do better to accommodate your commute option?
No.
What would you say to your fellow employees to inspire them to try using a commute option other than driving alone in their car?
Take advantage of any way to improve your work commute. Even if your workplace does not offer teleworking, find an employee who lives nearby you and carpool!
